Nordicity recognized for key in-kind sponsorship for project management expertise and strategy development for the Toronto City Summit Alliance in the launch of Greening Greater Toronto.

TORONTO — July 2007 — The Toronto City Summit Alliance (TCSA) recently recognized Nordicity Group as a key in-kind sponsor of the Greening Greater Toronto initiative.

On June 24, the TCSA launched "Greening Greater Toronto," its latest initiative to improve the future of the Toronto region. Greening Greater Toronto was created in response to the TCSA's 2007 call for a regional environmental vision and plan that will build upon the existing efforts and leadership of environmental organizations, governments, research institutions and businesses. Since then, more than 100 partners from corporations, industry, government and the non-profit sector have joined forces to improve the environmental health and future of the Greater Toronto Area and make it the greenest city region in North America.

Nordicity provided project management services at cost to manage the program leading to “Greening Greater Toronto.” Nordicity’s Manager Terri Wills acted as TSCA project manager and convened four working groups that developed the four initial implementation plans:

  • Driving a large-scale retrofit of GTA commercial buildings;
  • Creating a local emissions reduction fund;
  • Introducing a green procurement initiative, and
  • Building a network of public education/demonstration centres.

These four plans will not only seek to improve the region’s environmental performance, but also its performance in the growing Green Technology sector. Terri Wills will continue to be involved in implementing these four green plans. This experience builds on Nordicity’s expertise in working with major private and public partners in cluster development and driving industry innovation - most recently in developing elements of the CONCERT innovation strategy for the GTA’s digital media sector. Through the Toronto City Summit Alliance, Nordicity will work with key partners such as the Toronto Regional Research Alliance (TRRA) to ensure that the initiatives are in step with the Province’s Innovation Agenda. As announced by the Minister of Research and Innovation Wilkinson at launch, “Greening Greater Toronto is in line with that Agenda, which places innovation in clean technologies and the bio-economy among my Ministry’s top priorities”.
