Patricia Huntsman & Associates, in association with Nordicity, have been selected by the City of Maple Ridge to develop a new Cultural Plan that will guide the City’s role and investment in arts and cultural services over the next ten years. Nordicity will contribute to the research and stakeholder engagement, as well as bringing its expertise in social impact assessment to the project by conducting a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis.
The project team will liaise with City Council, the Culture Plan Task Group, and the Public Art Steering Committee – as well as a wide range of cultural groups, businesses and educational representatives – in order to ensure a diversity of voices and an inclusive strategic vision. The development of the strategy also includes a robust public engagement process that will seek valuable input from Maple Ridge residents.
The update to the cultural plan comes at a time when Maple Ridge is building and maintaining strong cultural industries in the city. Mayor Nicole Read has expressed that the development of the new plan comes at an exciting time for the City. “Culture builds community, contributes towards cultural tourism and economic benefits and enhance quality of life in Maple Ridge.” The 2017 Cultural Plan also follows recent projects in Maple Ridge such as the Cultural Mapping project and various investments in new festivals, grants and public art projects.
