Nordicity has been engaged by Creative Okanagan and the City of Kelowna to develop the Central Okanagan Music Strategy. The Music Strategy stems from the City’s 2020-2025 Cultural Plan, which recognizes that arts, culture and heritage are important to the wellbeing of the community, the quality of life for all residents, and the economic vibrancy of the city. Launched in September of 2019, the Plan sets out 10 goals to foster a thriving, engaging and inspiring community in the Central Okanagan, including a vibrant music community.

The Music Strategy, to be developed over 2020 and 2021, hopes to advance the sustainability of the music scene in the Central Okanagan through: developing community support toward music; increasing support to live music; creating an understanding of the current music landscape; and setting priorities for the future development of music in the Central Okanagan.

To commence the engagement, Nordicity facilitated a digital focus group with members of the project’s leadership ensemble and advisory group. To follow, Nordicity will begin with defining the region’s music sector and mapping its various segments through an online survey, interviews and additional digital focus groups. The project team will use these findings in conjunction with secondary research to inform the Strategy ahead of a validation phase. Lastly, it will support the client to develop KPIs and other measurements to determine success of the Strategy going forward.

The project commenced in April of 2020 and will extend into the Fall of 2021.
